aNew Paintings is Yi-Shuan Lee’s first solo exhibit in his young artistic career. The collection of work focuses on the artist’s time spend in his motherland, Taiwan, where the artist was born and has now resided in since 2020.

Bedtime Stories
Bedtime Stories opens this Wednesday, November 11th at Mark Christopher Gallery.
Bedtime Stories brings together Timothy Bair and Yi-Shuan Lee, two Taiwanese born artists, childhood friends, and first generational immigrants living in North America. Through a mixture of autobiography and collective history, the works in this exhibition explore Formosa from the perspective of folklores and cultural pedagogy.
The exhibition runs until December 12th, 2020.

The back of the leftover concert posters from his parents were Yi-Shuan Lee’s first canvases when he was just 4, 5 years old. Now based in Toronto, the young Taiwanese-Canadian boy has turned into a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture and film-making. “I am simply making works with the most genuine approach possible”, he explains. With the goal of producing authentic work, he also introduces East Asian perspectives into his work as “Being aware of the stereotypes and misinterpretations on how the world sees East Asia is my way of understanding my place in the world.” Delve into the mysterious, cigarette-crowded universe of this artist and learn more about his paintings.
